During the training physiotherapists learn to handle the horse, to understand its body language and to apply riding aids. They also develop feel and body awareness of themselves as riders and of the horse. Only when the Kinetics of the horse's motion is clearly understood as the movement reponses of the rider, can the physiotherapist accurately assess the effects of riding on the patient. Only then can the physiotherapist correctly apply riding therapy.

INTRA offers various treatments and activities:

Hippotherapy
Hippotherapy is a treatment that uses the multidimensional movement of the horse; from the Greek word "hippos" which means horse.

Hippo therapy is a treatment for riders with movement dysfunctions and or neurological disorders.
In hippo therapy the horse influences the rider rather than the rider controls the horse.

The treatment therapy takes place in a controlled environment of the arena where graded sensory input can elicit appropriate adaptive responses from the client. Specific riding skills are not taught (as in therapeutic riding), but rather a foundation is established to improve neurological function and sensory processing. This foundation can then be generalized to a wide range of daily activities.
